CHARLES CITY – Police stopped a speeding vehicle last week in Charles City with an alleged intoxicated driver behind the wheel.
On July 26 at about 2:02 AM, a Charles City police officer initiated a traffic stop at E Street and 11th Avenue. After an investigation, the officer placed 29-year-old John Carpenter of Charles City under arrest for first offense operating while intoxicated. He was also cited for speeding 36 in a 25 miles per hour zone.
Carpenter was taken to the Floyd County Jail and held until July 30 when he was released on his own recognizance. He awaits an August 18 hearing in court.
