Spencer man seriously injured after stabbing incident

STORM LAKE – A Spencer man was hospitalized with serious injuries after another Iowa man allegedly stabbed him multiple times.

The Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office has charged Pedro Orozco, age 43, with attempted murder, a class B felony, on July 21.

The charge stems from an incident that took place on July 9, 2014, when the Buena Vista County 911 Center was contacted by the Spencer Police Department. Spencer Police reported that Clay County Sheriff Deputies had responded to an accident on Highway 71 south of Spencer. While investigating this accident, deputies discovered that a passenger in the vehicle was suffering from multiple stab wounds, and was being taken to the Spencer Hospital. The victim, identified as Chayton Quail, age 19 from Spencer, was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital and was then later transferred on to a Sioux Falls hospital for surgery.

Further investigation revealed that the stabbing incident had occurred at 310 Thomas Street in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Buena Vista County Deputies and the Sioux Rapids Police Department responded to the residence and determined that there were no more injured parties at the residence.

A preliminary investigation indicated that an altercation occurred between the victim and another male suspect at the residence. Orozco was gone from the scene upon the arrival of officers, but a later investigation tied him to the crime. He was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office on July 10 and transported to Storm Lake to be held in the Buena Vista county jail.
