HAMPTON – Shawn Dietz, Republican nominee for State Senate from District 27, announced today that State Senator Jack Whitver, a Republican from Ankeny, will join him for a public campaign stop at Cabin Coffee in Mason City on Saturday, July 19th. This is the second week of the Dietz for Iowa campaign’s “Coffee and Conversation” stops where the public is invited to visit about issues related to state government.
“Senator Whitver has been an outstanding public servant for the taxpayers of his district in the Ankeny area, and we’re very pleased to have him join us this weekend,” Dietz said today. “Jack has been part of the Senate Minority that has had to endure the obstructionist rule-making of Senate leadership over the past four years. It’s unfortunate that any individual or party would seek to diminish the opinions of nearly 1.5 million Iowans as represented by 24 State Senators as has been the practice under the incumbent majority in the Iowa Senate by blocking votes on measures that have received approval in the Iowa House.”
“It’s very important for folks to have a voice in their government at all levels,” Dietz continued. “That’s why we are visiting as many towns in Senate District 27 as we can for informal gatherings where we can enjoy each other’s company over a cup of coffee, and also discuss the issues that are important to taxpayers.” Dietz will also travel to Clarksville as part of Saturday’s “Coffee and Conversation” schedule before visiting Allison for the Wilder Days town celebration.
Dietz’s schedule for Saturday is as follows: 9:00 a.m. “Coffee and Conversation” at Cabin Coffee located at 1304 4th St SE in Mason City; 11:00 a.m. “Coffee and Conversation” at the Clarksville Public Library located at 103 W. Greene St; and the Wilder Days Parade in Allison at 4 p.m.
Jack Whitver represents District 19 in the Iowa Senate. Senator Whitver is a small business owner and attorney who resides in Ankeny. He is a graduate of Iowa State University where he was a three-year starter for the Cyclone football team, and was named an Academic All-American while helping to lead the Cyclones to three bowl games.
Shawn Dietz is the former Mayor of Hampton, whose young family personally felt the economic collapse that gripped the nation in 2008 as the glass coatings factory where he spent four years as a quality control technician closed its doors. Raised in the Butler County community of Dumont, Shawn graduated from Hampton-Dumont High School in 2000, and received an Associate in Science Degree, majoring in Sales and Marketing from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City. Shawn currently resides in Hampton where he works as the Program Director for a locally owned and operated media company.
