NIT – Michael Cisneros has left Mason City to be with family in the aftermath of a trial that put his life on the line.
Tuesday evening, just hours after a Cerro Gordo County jury found him not guilty in the murder of a young boy, Michael Cisneros contacted the NorthIowaToday.com newsroom and offered an interview.
“Would you like a comment… The only comment that I am going to give there in Mason?” Cisneros asked.
NIT and Publisher Matt Marquardt has agreed to speak with Mr. Cisneros when he is ready to do so.
“I would be more than happy to discuss things with you,” Cisneros explained. “At this time I am trying to [wrap] my head around things and I just need a couple of days to get my head on straight. I am hours away at this time. But [you’re] more than welcome to have my comments and only you and your paper.”
Cisneros faced a lifetime in prison if he was convicted of the crime he was accused of – murder in the first degree – an especially heinous crime considering a small child was lost. He seems to be attempting to put his life back together in these early days since the trial ended.
“Right now I am just enjoying being with my family,” he said.
NIT will speak with Mr. Cisneros on his timetable, when he is ready, and allow him to say his piece.

To the armchair detectives who have commented on this thread, were you on the jury? Did you hear all the evidence? Are you just interjecting your own biases? This is just a sad situation in which no one wins. Leave it at that.
Maybe he will strike up a friendship with Chris Donahoo, if he hasn’t already. They can drink beers together and talk about their close calls with the American Justice System.
What would have been/what was the motive for Cisneros to kill this kid? Makes no sense. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Snyder Sr. isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed and many things he said just didn’t add up.
Robin ragsdale…Your Nothing But A Fat slob! You don’t know squat. I didn’t say Cisneros didnt do or know something. The father was obviously involved as well. He tried giving the boy to someone else. And There Was Other Evidence That Also Pointed To The father.
A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a showed of dought
Everyone under the sun knows this low life piece of trash was involved in the murder of a little child and it’s sickening. May someone give him what he deserves which IS NOT the right to tell his lying side of the story. BUT obviously they rushed him to trial and they didn’t have enough to pin the entire murder on him-poor choice going for a murder conviction. The dad played his part as well, perhaps the state thought this low life would get nervous to snitch on the dad but he didn’t…
It’s obvious the state did not prove its case. Hell it only took the jury 3 hours to reach a verdict. ( And they are the only ones that heard the whole case) Anyone on here bashing this guy for being found not guilty would be crying foul if this had happened to one of their family members. I don’t know if this guy is guilty or not but blame the state for doing a crappy job at proving their case. Also why was there blood on the daddies bed that wasn’t explained either.
mike did it 100% ive know mike sine we where kids after this happen he has told me in a drunk state and looking like he had remorse, (that he has Killed someone) Mike was crazy and ask everyone tht really knows him, He Lies all the time.. I hope GOD takes care of mike. How can you live with your self Mike??
His new book ” What I learned from O.J”
Is Mason City just a place where all losers and POS come to so they can keep getting out of jail and then committing the another crime? Do we have any Judges with asset of balls or is everyone out there belong to the bleeding hearts club??
You will answer for this one day Michael Cisneros. You are evil. You can hoodwink a jury, but not god. Karma will make havoc on your wicked soul. God works miracles and he works in mysterious ways. Obviously your case is the latter, but you are only kidding yourself if you think you really got away with this. B
Don’t be hard on the jury, they kicked with the facts they were given, which weren’t exactly the most ‘proof without a reasonable doubt’evidence. Maybe it’s because he is my friend that I believe he didn’t do this. I just don’t believe Mike got in this guys car found a random key and thought “lets see if it goes to this security locked door,” then went into that apartment with the intent to kill that baby.A couple drops of blood drops does not convince convince me.
I haven’t been following this case, and I didn’t attend the trial like I have a few other murder trials. But it makes no sense why blood of a drug using friend should be found on the pajamas of a deceased child in a river. When drug users congregate, they usually sit on the couch in the living room and do their drugs, talk and watch TV. It’s not uncommon for people to share their security entrance codes, or keys with friends either. How many people know the City Center code? Lots.
NEVER should there be adult DNA in, near, or around the pants of a child~ especially one that ISN’T their own…
You should let it go Robin. The jury made the decision. The investigation should have lead them to the truth. Perhaps Mr. Cisneros could have shed some light on everyone and brought justice to this child. It didn’t work that way unfortunately. I’ve read everything on this case and I come back to the father being involved. I’ve known him for years and he’s a slippery critter. God Bless You.
I’m not sure about his innocence or guilt, but I do know you should never say “You can’t kill children in mason city and get away with it”…because it WOULDN’T BE TRUE. Sick puppies in that town.
Here’s some info for some of you who don’t understand DNA and what some law enforcements don’t want you to know. Lets say you visit a friend and a week later that friend is found murdered, guess what? Scary isn’t it?

files a wrongful death suit and gets the slightest bit of justice due to his son, & eventually some closure.. And I hope the jurors of this case can HONESTLY go to bed each night with a clear conscious knowing they’ve just let a murderer walk scott free… The victim will always be that innocent baby MURDERED~ almost afraid of what’s to come next, “Barlas Not Guilty Verdict????”
Give us your best explaination Robin as to how anyone (besides the father himself) could of open the SECURITY DOOR to that apartment? Was this building not a security building?
bottoms!!! I am curious as to how Cisneros is going to explain just that FACT! I feel jury is just as guilty for killing that lil boy so many years ago for the obvious INJUSTICE they served him! I hope I don’t know any of the jurors personally, they make me sick!
I’ve stated before in regards to this case~ that little boy did not have to die!! He was uncapable of telling anyone due to his age and the limited vocabulary 2yr olds have IF bad things were happening to him.. I sincerely hope…
jury that let a killer walk free!!!!
You have the audacity to type ‘where was the mother’ and later ‘who would benefit the most with the child gone?’~ are you f*cking kidding me??? No parent “benefits” from the loss of a child!!!!
You don’t even have the balls and/or vagina to comment under your real name- any particular reason you feel need to hide who you are?
Bottom line here: DNA DOESN’T LIE!! If Cisneros is innocent, his DNA wouldn’t have shown up in the child’s pj…
I read somewhere Kimt or Globe or comments that Cisneros admitted being at Snyders two weeks PRIOR if that is true that explains his DNA. Did you know that a person sheds they’re DNA EVERYWHERE they go?
that include shedding his DNA into the pajama bottoms of a 2 yr old..?
ATF~ YOU’RE A COMPLETE AND UDDER I.D.I.O.T!!!
John Snyder Sr. has been drug through the wringer over & over throughout the duration of the initial investigation and for the years to follow.. You don’t know he hasn’t grieved the loss (murder) of his son~ individuals grieve in many ways, most in private moments with loved ones. Men are taught at a young age it’s not “right” for a man to cry which I think is absolutely RIDICULOUS! If you feel need to call ‘bullshit’, do so on the…
John senior says his spare key was in his car that he “supposedly” forgot to lock and coincedently someone got the baby out of the apt that night or he happened to walk off…I call him BULLSHIT!!! If there were internet back in 94 I beT cops would be pulling off his computer “HOW TO KILL MY KID AND GET AWAY WITH IT” Just like the father that supposedly forgot his son in the car at his work and looked up 2 wks prior, “how long it takes for a child to die in a car”
No one knows if he is guilty or not … the question is where was the mother at? Who would benefit from him not being around anymore? I think the father has EVERYTHING to do with his sons murder. Even the investigators said the crime scene looked staged, the father has had no emotion about his death, and then as the trial is over hes gotta back himself up and interview with kimt saying…”I dont care what the public think of me” obiviously he does if he interviewed . He didnt want the boy
I’ll be watching for this interview. A lot of people will. I want to hear his side of this.
MIKE IS A MURDER, THINK WANT YOU WANT!!
Sad, hes only doing this cause everyone knows he s still guilty
