DES MOINES – A teen entered the home of a an elderly couple in Iowa’s capitol city Wednesday evening and struck them repeatedly with a metal object, killing a 97-year-old man.
Des Moines police said that at 7:44 PM on July 2nd 2014, the Des Moines Police Communications Center received a 911 call from the residence of Rupert and Harriet Anderson at 4400 E. 46th Street in Des Moines. The caller, Mrs. Anderson, stated that a suspect had entered their home and assault her and her husband.
Des Moines Police Patrol Officers and DMFD Medics responded and found both victims inside the house injured and bleeding. Mrs. Anderson was able to provide a description of the suspect before she and Mr. Anderson were taken to Mercy Hospital. Mr. Anderson later died from his injuries. He was 97 yrs old. Mrs. Anderson, who is 94, is in stable condition.
Des Moines Police Detectives also responded to the scene and located witnesses and a possible suspect who were brought to the Des Moines Police Station for interviews.
Thursday morning, Des Moines police announced that the suspect in this case has been arrested and booked in to the Polk County Jail.
19-year-old Ngor Peter Makuey of Des Moines was taken into custody in the early stages of this investigation. He was charged with murder 1st degree and attempted murder.
Mr. Makuey lived at 4653 Hubbell Avenue – a short distance from the victims home. The suspect had no history with the Des Moines Police Department prior to the homicide.
A motive has not been identified at this point and the murder appears to be un-related to the business owned by Mr. and Mrs. Anderson.
The injuries sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Anderson appear to have been inflicted by a metal instrument, Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax said, and has not yet been recovered.

If shooting, and destroying are passions of yours, causing you to salivate and have “wet dreams”, what’s the commentary on your overall mental health? Are you to be considered a well adjusted human being? Are you to be considered civilized? I’m not anti-gun, but what I have noticed in my explorations of the mindframes of many gun enthusiasts is they share a preponderant urge to want to kill things, blow things up, and generally destroy. I wonder if it stems from a feeling of powerlessness and disadvantage they may have felt while growing up in strictly authoritarian, patriarchal homes? It’s there, and it’s undeniable. Life to many gun owners, is there to destroy and take, not cherish or study. Why is that?
Something you said makes sense, and gave me an epiphany. Violence is human nature, just some people can still have the urges yet still control themselves. The epiphany is that pacifists must be missing a certain chromosome. Since the majority of the mass murderers are democrats or associated with democrats tells me that there are some really sick people out there.
@Philly-maybe it is because people are violent by nature. Violence has settled more major issues in this world we live in than any other thing. Anyone who does not think they should defend themselves and their family’s against violence is a fool and sooner or later some violent person will prove it to him. LVS, you are talking about defense and that is different. Defense from violence is a protective action. Violence is an initiated action. I’m ALL FOR the defensive action, and I extend this to National Security and Military Doctrine. How does a teenager living in the 21st century, have a aftershock/flashback from the effects of slavery. My father was shot by the Germans in WW2. When he came home he was never the same, and died very young. Because I was without a father after the age of 13, should I hate all Germans… This teenager was taught to hate white people by his parents or those like him. Another aftershock from the effects of slavery. Tragic. But the institution of slavery was an evil evil thing. It still works in the minds of young black males. The problem is that it cannot be undone. Your nation is left suffering from the effects perhaps permanently.

I agree with Suzy Q. Instead of putting these murderers in Prison for life, make them slaves for the State. They can do State road work, County work and earn their lifetime jail costs. If we are worried about them escaping while working all day for the State our County, we have the technology to outfit them with an exploding device on their body that could be used if a supervisor needed to use it. Let them produce for our benefit.
