justice2DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz announced that Philip Michael Thomas of Waterloo pled guilty in a voter fraud case last week.

“I want to thank the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney Ferguson for taking election integrity seriously,” Schultz said. “They should be commended for their hard work.”

Thomas pled guilty to Election Misconduct in the 1st degree, a Class D felony, on June 6, 2014. Thomas was convicted of registering to vote and voting in the 2012 general election while being a felon without his rights restored. Thomas was sentenced to a five year suspended prison sentence, two years probation at a corrections continuum, and a suspended $750 fine. Thomas was one of the 117 individuals found to have voted illegally during a DCI investigation.
