Mason City man in jail for third time in recent weeks

MASON CITY – Caught twice in recent weeks for drunk driving and other violent acts, a Mason City man was arrested for violating a no-contact order on Wednesday.

A Mason City woman had filed a petition in court last year against Joseph Patrick Fitzgerald, age 54 for relief from domestic abuse, which initiated a no-contact order. Mason City police took a report of a no-contact order violation on June 11th at the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue and arrested Fitzgerald. He was charged and released from jail pending a court date.

Fitzgerald is also awaiting a court date for a second operating while intoxicated charge. On May 28, 2014, a motorist called in a possible drunk driving complaint on a vehicle at 9:24 PM. Mason City police officers located the vehicle near 12th Street and North Kentucky and got it stopped near the 600 block of North Kentucky. Fitzgerald was driving and arrested for driving while revoked and operating while intoxicated, 3rd or subsequent offense. He is awaiting a pre-trial conference on July 18th and a jury trial on July 29th.

On Feb 21, 2014, Fitzgeral was arrested for operating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an injury accident, speed, and no insurance by Mason City police after he was involved in a collision at 6th and South Federal. He was finally caught in the Homer’s Bar parking lot when he pulled in.
