Clear Lake man pleads guilty to attempted burglary

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man that police said burglarized the apartment of his neighbors accepted a plea deal and got 14 days in jail and a fine.

Robert Rollefson, age 49, pled guilty on May 30th to attempted burglary in the third degree. He was originally charged by Clear Lake police with felony D burglary in the third degree. Rollefson was sentenced to 14 days in jail and fined $625.

According to Clear Lake police, just before 6:00 PM on Friday January 31, 2014, Chris Speaker and Lori Slater called the Clear Lake Police Department from their apartment at 601 12th Ave N in Clear Lake to report that they had returned home to find that their apartment had been burglarized. When officers arrived they found numerous items were missing from the apartment. Speaker and Slater explained that they had not been home since the 18th of the month and did not know when the burglary may have occurred.

Officers began speaking to other residents of the apartment to see if anyone had seen anything. A resident from another apartment told officers he had seen another resident, 49 year old Robert Allen Rollefson, removing items from the apartment on the day of January 18th.

Rollefson was located near a residence in the 1200 block of N 6th Street a short time later. When officers attempted to apprehend him he ran and then stopped. He resisted officers when they attempted to take him into custody.
