Man injured near Waterloo after car fails to yield to motorcycle

WATERLOO – An elderly man failed to yield to a motorcyclist, and caused a serious injury to the driver.

On May 29, 2014 at approximately 0822 hrs. Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a personal injury traffic accident on South Canfield RD. at Hwy. 20.

A motorcycle operated by Seth Shepard, age 37 of La Porte City was driving south on South Canfield RD. when a vehicle operated by Wendell Erpelding, age 78 of Jesup that had been driving north turned left in front of the motorcycle causing Shepard to flip into the ditch.

Shepard received multiple injuries. He was wearing a helmet and was transported to Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

Mr. Erpelding was charged with Failure To Yield While Making A Left Turn.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Gilbertville and Jesup Fire Departments.
