OTTUMWA, IA – A six-week pregnant woman in this mid-sized Iowa town is said to have been served a cheeseburger laced with marijuana from her favorite McDonald’s restaurant.
According to a report in the Ottumwa Post, on April 26, Cory Long, 31, ordered two McDoubles for his pregnant fiance, Brittany Songer, 23, from Southside McDonald’s, located at 222 Richmond Avenue in Ottumwa. Both took a bite of the burger. Songer soon discovered she got more than just a burger after a couple more bites.
“It tasted bad, and I thought maybe it was because [Long] had cologne on his hands when he bit it. Then I opened the burger and the cheese was just covered with weed,” Songer told the Post.
The Post reported that Songer immediately stopped eating her meal and placed the food in the restroom at her work until she finished her shift.
“Once I opened those burgers, you couldn’t smell McDonald’s anymore. You could only smell the illegal drugs that were on it,” Songer told the Post.
Police were called, and the Ottumwa Police Department is conducting an investigation on the incident. An officer told the Post that “I can’t really quantify how much there was. It appeared to be something that may have been intentionally placed on the burger and by who is part of the investigation. We are trying to determine who actually put it on there.”
