New resident of Mason City who punched officers in a Waterloo courthouse arrested Friday

MASON CITY – Mason City police arrested a new resident of town Friday, wanted on two warrants for violating probation in cases out of Waterloo, his former place of residence.

Police caught Shannon Tyrone Craig, now living at the 600 block of South Carolina Avenue, at 24 2nd Street NE Friday morning at about 10:00 AM and took him into custody.  He was booked into the Cerro Gordo Coutny Jail and soon transferred to Waterloo, where he is being held on no bond in the Black Hawk County Jail for probation violations.

Shannon Tyrone Craig recently relocated to Mason City from Waterloo, where he allegedly had a violent altercation with law enforcement earlier this year.

According to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, on January 9, 2014, Craig was ordered into the Black Hawk County Jail by a court judge after an incident in a court room. Craig allegedly created a disturbance and then assaulted two sheriff’s deputies by kicking one in the stomach and punching the other deputy in the head and then in the chest several times. Neither deputy required medical attention. Craig was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer.  No outcome has been shown in court records yet, on those charges.
