Mason City Harley acquires vacant lot south of dealership

MASON CITY – The owners of Mason City Harley Davidson have acquired a vacant parking lot south of their dealership location on South Federal Avenue.

The lot, located on the 800 block of South Federal, had been for sale for some time.

Owner Steve Minert told NIT this week that “as of yet I have no plans for the south lot other than a good cleaning and to be used as overflow parking.”

There have been a few construction trucks parked there already this week.  The previous owners were form out of town.

Minert would also like to acquire the house at 711 South Washington, but he told NIT that there is no deal on that property, yet.

The entire 700 block of South Federal Avenue, including the alley, is owned by the Minert family, except for the house that Ruby Kopps lives in at 711 S. Washington.  In an interview two years ago, Minert described a plan that was “in motion” to add an outdoor motorcycle drive-in theatre in the southwest corner of the property, which would serve 30-40 bikes.  That wouldn’t be ready till spring of 2014, he said at the time.  No development has commenced at that corner yet, but much of the Harley renovation is complete.
