SOCHI, RUSSIA – The American ice hockey team gained victory in USA-Russia match, which was really a nail-biting Sochi Olympic clash in the latest chapter of the two giants’ historic rivalry.

T.J. Oshie scored the shootout winner as the United States defeated Russia 3-2.

Pavel Datsyuk had two goals in regulation for the Russians, while Joe Pavelski and Cam Fowler scored goals for the Americans with both coming while Russian forward Alexander Radulov was sitting in the penalty box.

With the score tied 2-2 in the third period, the Russians appeared to score the winner with just under five minutes left, but referees Marcus Vinnerborg and Brad Meier disallowed the goal apparently because the net had been knocked out of place.

Oshie, who plays for the St. Louis Blues, scored four times in the shootout. He said, “I was just thinking of something else I could do, trying to keep him guessing. Had to go back to the same move a couple times, but I was glad it ended when it did. I was running out of moves there.”

“Everything is OK, nothing terrible has happened,” said Russian forward Ilya Kovalchuk.  “We played good and showed our character by equalising the game at the end and now we will be getting ready for the future.”
