DES MOINES – Right-wing political activist Bob Vander Plaats confirmed Saturday that he will not run for the US Senate seat that Tom Harkin will be vacating.

“I will be running, but not for the U.S. Senate seat,” Vander Plaats said Saturday via social media.

Vander Plaats continues to be a voice in Iowa politics, headlining a rally in Des Moines recently where he claimed that “God instituted government”. He paints himself as a “pro-family Christian” who wants to “protect life, defend marriages and strengthen families”.

On September 24 of last year, Vander Plaats tweeted that “bold leadership inspires me to consider run for US Senate. It’d be an honor [serve with Senator Ted Cruz] and have “we the people’s” back.

Vander Plaats has never been a part of a successful state election.

  1. There is no need in politics for the extreme right and left and the straight ticket voters who are nothing but mindless sheep. It’s time for the working to boycot paying taxes.

    1. True. He is about as wacky as that nutjob Gabe Haugland from the CG GOP. That dude is whacko and wants to take away all women’s rights and set us back to the 19th century. These dinosaurs are killing the GOP. Who appoints these idiots to run these parties?
