ROSEMONT, Ill. – With its 18-17 win over No. 1 Penn State on Sunday afternoon, No. 2 Minnesota clinched a share of the Big Ten Wrestling Dual Meet Championship. The regular season conference title marks the second in the past three years for the Gophers. Minnesota and Penn State both ended the Big Ten dual meet season with matching 7-1 marks. With its win over Michigan last Sunday, Penn State had previously clinched a share of the title.
The match came down to the final heavyweight dual, where Tony Nelson earned a 6-0 decision to secure the win and the crown for the Gophers. Minnesota also got wins from David Thorn (133), Nick Dardanes (149), Dylan Ness (157) and Logan Storley (174).
The 2014 Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be held from March 8-9 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. Minnesota will aim for its 11th conference title and first since 2007.
