MASON CITY – The NIACC wrestling team remained at No. 7 in the latest rankings released Friday by the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association.
Clackamas Community College (Oregon) is ranked No. 1. Ellsworth is ranked No. 6, Iowa Central is No. 12, Iowa Lakes is No. 14 and Iowa Western is No. 15.
NIACC sophomore Shakheim Chapman is ranked No. 1 at 197 pounds after being No. 2 in the previous rankings. Chapman (16-2) was fifth at 197 pounds at last year’s national meet.
Other ranked wrestlers for the Trojans are freshman Nosomy Pozo, ninth at 149 pounds; freshman Yoanse Mejias, third at 157 pounds; sophomore Sha-Keno Jenkins, seventh at 165 pounds; sophomore Thomas Daniels, fifth at 174 pounds and freshman Andy Glaser, 12th at 184 pounds.
NIACC wrestles in the NJCAA North Central district meet on Feb. 16 in Spencer.
The NJCAA national tournament is set for Feb. 27-March 1 in Spokane, Wash.
