MASON CITY – Emergency responders were called the the Crystal Sugar plant in Mason City after a collision on Tuesday involving two trains.
Authorities reported no injuries and little damage after two trains ran into each other at about 3:30 PM. According to a report from the fire department, personnel were dispatched for a report of two trains colliding at the 9th NW and Jackson St
crossing. On arrival in this area no problem was found. Dispatch was contacted with this information and they were attempting to get more information from the rail line. Dispatch then contacted the fire department, stating that the incident was on the rail line behind United Sugars. Unit 2315 and 2411 responded to this location. Emergency responders were met by railroad officials who stated that there were no injuries or problems with the rail cars.
At the scene, an ambulance, fire truck, Mason City Police and Cerro Gordo deputy responded to the call. In back of the plant, railroad workers were busy investigating the rail cars.
A Mason City officer informed, “One train backed into a Engine. Minimal amount of damage and there wasn’t any injuries, which is the main thing.”
