WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) on Friday said he welcomes President Obama’s remarks earlier this week signaling his willingness to accept a step-by-step approach to immigration reform, noting it is “the approach House Republicans have long supported” and “the only way to make sure immigration reform works.”

Following are Boehner’s remarks:

“I was encouraged that the president said that he wouldn’t stand in the way of a step-by-step immigration reform. As you know, that’s the approach the House Republicans have taken.

“The American people are skeptical of big, comprehensive bills. And frankly, they should be. The only way to make sure immigration reform works this time is to address these complicated issues one step at a time. I think doing so will give the American people confidence that we’re dealing with these issues in a thoughtful way and a deliberative way. So I’m hopeful we can make progress on this very important issue.”
