AMES, Iowa – Hilton Magic struck again as Iowa State stunned No. 7 Michigan with a 77-70 victory Sunday in front of a sold-out Hilton Coliseum. In his first game of the 2013-14 season, Melvin Ejim led Iowa State with 22 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes of action. He led five Cyclones in double-figures.

It was a moment that was talked about from the beginning of the season was when the return of Melvin Ejim would happen after it was announced that Iowa State’s star forward would be out for four-to-six weeks. Through hard work and dedication on and off-the-court, Ejim accelerated his return and was available off the bench for today’s game.

Early in the first half, Ejim came to the scorer’s table to a rousing standing ovation from the Hilton Coliseum faithful. He came back like he never left. Ejim led Iowa State with 22 points, only one off his career-high 23 points, and nine rebounds.

What helped close the game late was the play of Georges Niang. Restricted to a quiet day due to foul trouble, Niang made the most noise in the final four minutes of the game when the Cyclones were trying to restrict the Wolverine comeback. He had six points and a rebound.
