Michigan man charged in death of Iowa tot due to hypothermia

WATERLOO – On March 12, 2013 at approximately 7:21 PM, Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue were dispatched to 436 Cutler Street reference a 2-year old child not breathing. When police arrived they found the child’s caretaker performing CPR on the child. When paramedics arrived they continued to perform CPR but found that the child’s body temperature was extremely low and the body was cold to the touch. The child was transported to Allen Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy on the child revealed that she died of probable hypothermia.

On September 30, 2013, a $100,000.00 felony warrant was issued in Black Hawk County for the charge of Child Endangerment Resulting in Death on the caretaker, Nathaniel Quentin Knight, age 37, of Charlotte, Michigan. On October 1, 2013, Michigan State Police arrested Knight in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. Knight was being held in Michigan until he was returned to Waterloo this past weekend. He is currently being held in the Black Hawk County Jail.
