MASON CITY – A man who tried to steal a child in a Clear Lake restaurant and bar will go to prison for ten years, a judge decided Monday.

Jonathan L. Workman, age 34, of Cedar Rapids, plead guilty in August to felony C child stealing.  In return, other charges were dropped, including two counts of assault and child endangerment.

Workman was sentenced Monday in a Cerro Gordo County court.

The crime took place in April at Rumorz Bar in Clear Lake. Workman grabbed the six month old son of Rumor’s owner Katie Showalter, Kasen, out of the arms of a woman and attempted to flee with the child before being subdued by patrons. The incident was caught on video (see below).

Workman has previously been convicted of felony child endangerment causing bodily injury in 2008.

After the sentencing was handed down by judge Dedra L. Schroeder, Mrs Showalter felt a sense of relief.

“I am extremely happy with the out come of this sentencing this morning, I know that he will not do this to anyone else again,” Mrs. Showalter told NIT.  “I think he received the right sentence and will now be able to get the help he needs. lol thats the nice version… I can now breathe knowing that he can’t hurt us anymore, it’s time to heal.”

Workman is now in the Cerro Gordo County Jail awaiting transport to prison.

Very well said. When are you running for political office in Cerro Gordo County? You would have my vote.

hang him upside down in the prison gym maybe they can knock some sence into him loser

Hey Matt, it should be “stealer” not “steeler.” Have a good day.

Maybe he works with steel. Maybe he’s from Pittsburgh.
