MASON CITY – A guilty verdict was returned Wednesday in a case involving indecent exposure at the local YMCA.
Dennis Vrba, age 69, was found guilty on two counts of indecent exposure after two incidents at the Mason City YMCA were reported to police. The incidents allegedly took place on July 20th and July 25th in 2012 in the sauna area of the Mason City Family YMCA.
Vrba was charged along with two other men, David Escher and Douglas Petersen. They both received deferred judgements.
Records show that sentencing is scheduled for October 30th at 1:30PM.
On September 12 of 2012, the YMCA explained in a letter to its members how it expected its members to behave in the locker rooms and also the actions it took in “dismissing” the three men who allegedly had sex in the sauna.
The next day, on September 13th, the Mason City YMCA sent a letter explaining how they were raising their membership rates.

@Katie-Excellent point. Men who go to the “Y” and Health Clubs generally walk around naked. That is how they tend to shower and sit in the Sauna’s. It beats the hell out of trying to do it with your clothes on. Although I must admit I have never heard of guys having sex in the “Y” before. At least not that age.
I still go to the Y but I dont go in the Men’s locker room anymore, I use the family locker rooms. I dont really like the fact that many guys in there just dont change and leave, hell no, they sit there naked as a jaybird and talk with friends, hang out by the sinks, talk by the showers (by the sauna) and just makes it very uncomfortable to be in there, because you have to pass them to go to the pool.
Used to love the Naked Jumping Jacks the flabby old men would do in front of everyone in the Y locker room. Went on for years. The Y is completely irresponsible and really to blame for this behavior over the years. Never had the guts to tell the gray beards to knock it off, so it just got worse n worse till they diddled each other in front of others. Surprised people go there, honestly.

Mom and I quit going for Ice Cream after we found out about all this.

Quit going to the Y after this. I was tired of the equipment always having signs posted that repairs were to be done on it. The membership was expensive, and still the equipment was always in a state of repair. Then if you tried to use the track, it was always filled with kids goofing off or people walking 2 to 3 wide. The staff did nothing to stop any of this, so I figured it wasn’t worth the money.
