Taliban leader and 6 other insurgents caught by Afghan troops

SHINDAND DISTRICT, Afghanistan – Special Forces soldiers from the 4th Special Operation Kandak detained seven insurgents, including a senior Taliban leader Aug. 16 in Herat province’s Shindand district.

The operation took place near Emeret and Kushe villages to ensure security through the presence of Afghan forces.

“As the ANASF continue to hunt down the Taliban, Afghanistan’s fate will fall into the hands of its citizens,” said Shindand District Governor Lal Mohammed. “Our government is strong, and continues to grow stronger every day.”

The captured insurgents are allegedly responsible for emplacing numerous roadside bombs throughout the district. They are also believed to be behind an Aug. 3 kidnapping and execution of an Afghan National Army soldier.

Afghan Special Forces turned over the detainees to the National Directorate of Security in Herat.

Afghan National Army Special Forces are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in remote areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

No civilians were injured and no property damage reports were made as a result of the operation.
