WASHINGTON – Airport screeners with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) discovered dozens of firearms last week before the owners could board planes.

According to a TSA spokesman, 32 firearms were discovered last week and 24 of those weapons were loaded. Eleven of those weapons had rounds chambered.

The spokesman also said that 14 stun guns were discovered last week in carry-on bags around the nation.

The TSA reminded the public that it’s important to examine bags prior to traveling to ensure no prohibited items are inside.

“If a prohibited item is discovered in your bag, you could be cited and quite possibly arrested by local law enforcement,” the TSA spokesperson said.

Furthermore, the public was reminded that it’s not just undeclared guns and stun guns that aren’t generally allowed on planes.

“Officers also regularly find firearm components, realistic replica firearms, bb and pellet guns, Airsoft guns, brass knuckles, ammunition, batons, and a lot of sharp pointy things.”

You can travel with your firearms in checked baggage, but they must first be declared to the airline. Click here for more details on how to properly travel with your firearms.
