Iran test-fires weaponry, defense equipment

TEHRAN, May 26 (UPI) — Iran has been testing a wide-ranging arsenal of weapons during military drills but would not initiate war, the Islamic Republic’s defense minister said.

Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said Sunday that while Iran will not be the aggressor in war, the country has the weapons and equipment necessary to defeat its enemies, the semi-official Fars News reported.

“The Islamic Iran does not want war with anyone and will never initiate war and conflict, yet, it will not allow anyone to make an aggression or take a hostile action and will mightily crush any invading enemy and will make him regretful of his deeds,” Vahidi, a brigadier general, said during an address during a Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force ceremony.

The army has test-fired newly developed missiles and torpedoes, as well as homemade weapons, tools and vehicles, including submarines, military ships, helicopters and other aircraft, Fars reported.

Iranian defense analysts said the country’s advancements in weaponry should prove to be a deterrent to its enemies.
