MASON CITY – Around 3:00 pm Friday, the Mason City Fire Department responded to a house fire at 15422 Winnebago Avenue.
It was reported that it started in the attic and that it might be an electrical fire. Alliant Energy was at the location.
“It’s a young family that lives there,” said a neighbor. “The son is at school, but the couple and their daughter had just came home, probably from the store. They smelt smoke as they entered the house and came back out carrying their two dogs.”
Fire fighters were hauling out a door and tarps full of insulation and debris from the house. Smoke could still be seen from the front door. Fans were being set up to get the smoke out of the house. Most of the damage was done inside the house.
The owner of the property, Dennis Graff, was at the scene.
The Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Department was there to assist and the Manly Fire Department was on stand-by.
