Sheriffs make drug bust in Mason City after pursuit

From the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office:

Today at approximately 2:51 p.m. North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force officers attempted to stop a suspended driver in the 00 block of 9th Street NW.

The driver, Corey Alan Gardner, 32, of Mason City, lead North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force officers in a short vehicle pursuit in northwest part of Mason City.

Cerro Gordo County deputies and Mason City Police officers assisted in the pursuit of the red 2003 Chevrolet Impala.

During the pursuit of the vehicle, legal intervention was attempted by a Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputy, resulting in damage to the sheriff’s vehicle. Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident.

After a several block vehicle pursuit, driver and female passenger, Stephanie Dawn Lewis,43,  of Mason City, exited the vehicle attempting to flee law enforcement at 9th and North Washington. Both suspects were apprehended after a short foot chase. After investigating at the scene, Gardner was arrested and taken to jail held for $100,000.00 cash/surety bond on the following charges:

• Possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, B felony
• Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, D felony
• Eluding law enforcement, D felony
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple misdemeanor
• Interference with official acts, simple misdemeanor
• Driving under suspension
• Speeding
• Stop sign violation

A significant amount of money and narcotics were taken as evidence.
