MASON CITY – The Head Quarters Salon & Spa, located at 316 1st Street SW, held a Hair Cut-A-Thon Thursday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 pm with all proceeds going to “Making Strides to End Breast Cancer.”

Jan Thilges, owner of Head Quarters, along with her hair stylists Bev Frey, Dawn Bruns, Sue Kenny, Kayla King, Cindy Behr, Sue Owen and Tracy Colby got together and planned the event. Hair cuts were only $10 between the hours of six and eight with all the money going to breast cancer awareness.

“We’ve been busy right from the start,” said Behr. “Yeah, we’ve been busy cutting hair since six, our chairs have been full,” said the other stylists, about half way through the “Cut-A-Thon.” “Hopefully we’ll stay busy til the end,” said Thilges.

Kenny Winkowitsch had his family in the salon, they were all getting there hair cut. “My mom, Darlene Winkowitsch and my aunt, Arlene Winkowitsch recently died of breast cancer. I am more than happy to support this type of event and support the cause.”

All the stylists wanted to say, “Our friend and co-worker, Bev Frey, is a breast cancer survivor. We wanted to show our support to her and others who have been through this. Thank You to all who have made this event a success.”

Bev, with a big smile, said, “I want to thank everyone for all their support and helping with “Making Strides to end Breast Cancer.”

“Bev will be turning the money in Saturday to the Breast Cancer Awareness Center,” said Thilges.
