Cops: 2 charged after aiming guns at police

Carlos Sadovi, Chicago Tribune –

Two men have been charged with aiming guns at police in separate incidents over the weekend which resulted in police fatally shooting an alleged accomplice of one of the men, police said.

In the first incident which happened on Friday, officials have charged Leron Poullard, 23, with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault to a police officer while using a loaded gun, police said in a statement.

Poullard, of the 100 block of West 110th Place, was charged after police received a call of a man shooting a gun at 9:30 p.m. at a party on the 200 block of West 110th Street, police said.

When police arrived, witnesses identified Poullard and another person as the people who were firing the shots. After police identified themselves, Poullard and the other man fled but were pursued on foot by police, according to police.

As police pursued them, the men pointed a weapon at the police who responded by fatally shooting the man who was with Poullard, police said. Poullard was arrested in a nearby yard, police said. He was ordered held by a judge on Sunday on $150,000 bond, prosecutors said.

In the second incident which happened Saturday, police charged Ural J. Durant, 17, as an adult with aggravated assault to a peace officer with a firearm, aggravated unlawful Use of weapon in public, unlawful use of a weapon within 1000 feet of a school or park and a misdemeanor count for not having a valid firearm owners identification card and a city ordinance violation.

Durant, of the 7600 block of South Hamilton Avenue, was arrested after police responded to the 7700 block of South Wolcott Avenue after a man was spotted with a gun at that location at 9:10 p.m., police said.

When police arrived they spotted a man matching the description and when police identified themselves the man fled on foot, police said in a statement.

After police began chasing the man, he turned and aimed a gun in the direction of the officers, police said.

Police responded and shot Durant who was then taken to an area hospital for his injuries, police said. Police recovered a weapon from the scene, police said. Durant is expected to have a bond hearing on Tuesday, prosecutors said.

No officers were injured in either incident, police said.
