Car fire threatens ditch and field Sunday afternoon

Car burned fully and fire then was headed through a ditch to a bean field.

MASON CITY – The Mason City Fire Department and Mason City Police were dispatched to South California Avenue Sunday afternoon for a car fire.

It was reported that the car was fully engulfed in flames and that the fire was spreading into the ditch.

The fire fighters had put out the fire in the ditch, preventing the threat of heading to the nearby bean field, then proceeded to put out the car fire.

No information is known at this time as to the cause of the fire.

Affordable Towing was called to take the vehicle away.

    That’s not California Ave.(which runs north and south), You can see NIACC’s sign in the background of one of the pictures. That is west of California Ave. on 11th St. SE/Old Hwy 18 which runs east to west.
