MASON CITY – A Mason City woman is warning people to lock their car doors after the ordeal she went through with her vehicle.

On the morning of August 27th, Kayla Skiye says that her car was stolen from her driveway on 14th Street NW between the hours of 4 AM and 6 AM.  Mason City police responded to her call that morning at 7 AM and took a report.

“These thieves are out running around stealing things out of peoples cars and stealing cars in general,” Kayla warned.

“I got my car back after it was found in a ditch on 310th Street east bound, 2 miles out of Mason City on Highway 65,” Kayla explained.  “They took my golf club out of the trunk smashed all my windows out, broke my front axle and did a lot of damage to the body. I want everyone aware of these criminals.”

The tough part for Kayla is that she had the car parked in her driveway and the keys were in the car, which the thieves found.  She had also parked the car and was not using at at the time, as her insurance had temporarily expired.

Kayla Skiye had it coming she has a lot of haters I don’t feel sorry for her

I had my truck stolen and dumped in the big blue pit about 20 years ago. I of course stupidly left the keys in it also…

one… kayla you grew up in Clear Lake,IA!!! Not that small of town considering tourism… two… you cant say your keys fell out of your purse in to your car if you supposidly dont drive it because of insurance seems like you drive it enough… and three when the cops asked if you had anyone tgat would do this your first response should of been the person you had to call the cops on 8hrs before that

IWhen I went out to my car Wednesday Morning to go to work. My trunk was open and all 4 doors stuff was missing and messes up. yes my car was in the driveway to. Nothing is safe any more.

Did you ever think it was the person who refused to leave your residence early in the night came back after the cops left?

BAHAHahahahahahahaha!! After I saw the address…

I have seen this type of vandalism before when a drug deal went bad and the owner was being punished because they hadn’t paid their debt. Not accusing, just saying it is kind of suspicious. Normally thieves do not destroy like that for fun. They are worried about being caught. I don’t know this girl but I live close to 14th st N.W. and I have not seen anyone around doing this type of stuff. The people from out of town that I have seen have been polite and respectful. Doesn’t mean they all are, just means not all are bad.

Accusing? No. Alluding? Yes. You watch too much television.

This car was found by a deputy Sheriff who was doing their job. Maybe the MCPD should take pointers! 🙂

Mcpd patrols the city, it was found in the county.

Yes, I’m aware of who patrols such areas however I think you missed the point!

Why would you think Mason City PD would go outside of the city unless they had reason to? Was there a tip the car had been removed from the city?

Maybe you should also take up the PD’s offer to attend the Citizen Police Academy and learn what it is they really do instead of making silly comments about what you don’t know.

Did I hit a nerve?
Why dont YOU join me in the academy? Why dont you show me how things are done? How bout it?

i see everyone is so fast to believe this stroy and blame the blacks but sorry to me this just doesnt add up .. r u the young lady that was found out to niacc drunk .. the police where called to niacc due to there being a drunk female out there this can be checked out due to the reports if it wasnt u sorry .. also if ur car as the story states was parked and hadnt been drove due to no insurance yet u say u grabbed ur purse out and ur keys fell out that night .. sorry ppl this story just isnt adding up or making sense to me .. so what is the truth how long did ur keys just lay there for someone to find??? i hope young lady u r telling the entire truth because it is so unfair if ur not that u hace ppl putting the blame on blacks sorry not all of them r for another state and not all are bad trouble makers .. this just doesnt sound truthful to me hope someone finds out the truth

To LMAO, We in the coun try are changing the way we live, buildings locked down tight and guard dog released when we are gone, and surveillance camera in use…sad…we have to change our tranquil way of life.

I know. Sad 🙁

I know of some punk kids who break into cars and steal things. Just saying it may not be people from Chicago..or Detroit. Unless ‘somebody told you’ it was.

I grew up in a small town, and let me tell you how hard it was for anyone to do anything because EVERYONE was watching out for people. The sad thing is now, everyone is out for themselves and they don’t care about what they do or who they hurt. She may have left/dropped her keys in her car, but any human being that has morals would know NOT to steal it/destroy it. These people are destroying our city because they know they can get away from it! They get caught, and they are out on the street again the next day. What is wrong with this picture? Violence is not the answer, but I will tell you if I SEE ANYONE that doesn’t belong in my neighborhood SNOOPING AROUND, I will be waiting in the dark shadows with my softball bat. We need to do something people!! I was taught to love your neighbor, love people, but when these people are hurting, steeling, breaking the law and getting away with it, IT ANGERS ME!! So, that said, I guess if I get put in jail for some batting practice, I won’t be out in a day or week, because I am a law abiding citizen.

Not smart to leave your keys in a car! There is always someone around waiting to either take what soesn’t belong to them or destroy something. Be aware of your surrondings & lock up everything. That is what society has become, it’s a shame but true.

The boyz at it again trying to teach us more of their classy behavior. Rumor has it Chicago and Detroit would welcome you back! Oh, sorry I forgot about all of the warrants and fines you left behind. I wouldn’t want to interfere with you intruding on good peoples lives and ruining their town.

Somebody told me the reason there in Iowa is they have tapped out all there welfare in Detroit. Iowa has such a generous welfare policy. They couldn’t help themselves but to come down here and cash in on it. When they get done here they can just head back and start fresh in Detroit. Have you seen what they have turned Detroit into? Where there just dumping bodies in abandoned neighborhoods. Cops don’t find them for months.

Well as long as somebody told you…

If you leave your windows open on your house does that mean its your fault if someone climbs through and takes your tv? Wise up and get real. In small towns and in the country nobody locks anything up because they don’t have to. People respect one another enough that they leave their damn hands off things that don’t belong to them. Living in Mason City you need to lock and chain everything up. Low life degenerate scum slither around town every night looking for something to do because the meth won’t let them sleep. FYI, auto insurance will generally not want to pay if an insured client leaves the keys in the vehicle with it running. If the keys are in the vehicle and it is off, regardless of whether they are in the ignition or not the claim could be approved.

I can’t believe people these days!!! It’s not enough to steal someones car but to then beat it with a golf club and bash the windows??? You SHOULD be able to leave keys IN the ignition of your car in your own drive way. It’s a sad reality that you CAN’T do things like that anymore!!! When I was growing up in MC, EVERYONE DID!!!! We left our keys in our cars and our houses unlocked!! I’m so sorry you had to experience this Kayla but lets hope that someone else can learn from your mistake!! LOCK UP EVERYTHING PEOPLE!!! DOUBLE CHECK!!! Better safe than sorry!

Yes I did learn from this, it was an honest mistake. They fell out of my purse when I grabbed it out that night. But I grew up in a safe small town where I didn’t have to worry about this crap. I’ve only lived in mason city for a year.

it “USED” to be like that here too . Not anymore ! Lock everything !! Someone stole my weed eater out of our shed too . CrackHeads !

You say the keys fell out when you grabbed your purse out so I am wondering when the last time you drove it ? The story makes it sound like it has sat for a while but you make it sound like youdrive it everyday !

” She had also parked the car and was not using at at the time, as her insurance had temporarily expired.”

You left your keys in the car? Even if you did have insurance they wouldn’t pay. I hope in all honesty you have learned from this terrible ordeal, and spread the word.

I didn’t call my car in stolen, someone else had that found it and then the cops called me. Just so there is no confusion! But still everyone needs to be aware!
