Three felons arrested for firearm possession at Iowa Wal-Mart

Samantha Pidde, Clinton Herald, Iowa –

CLINTON — Three people, all convicted felons, were arrested Friday night at Wal-Mart after one of them allegedly purchased ammunition for a shotgun.

Clinton Police Sgt. Steve Kopp confirmed that police received information Friday night from an unnamed individual that Darian R. Bostic, 22, 910 Sixth Ave. South, was going to Wal-Mart to purchase ammunition for a shotgun, despite having a felony conviction on her record.

Officers responded to the Wal-Mart parking lot and identified Bostic’s vehicle based on a description given to them. A shotgun was located in plain sight in the vehicle, Kopp said. He said the shotgun was not taken into the store.

“Nobody was in danger of anything,” Kopp said.

Police say Bostic exited the store having purchased a box of shells, leaving with Matthew R. Weller, 20, 2316 Ninth St., Camanche, and Colin J. Varner, 20, 516 Seventh St., Camanche, said Kopp. They all have previous felony convictions and were arrested at approximately 10:30 p.m. for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, which is a class D felony.

Varner was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were taken into custody and brought to the Clinton County Jail.
