Iowa teen accuses early-morning burglar of sexual abuse

Mike Mendnenhall, Newton Daily News, Iowa –

A Lynnville teen told authorities she was forcibly fondled early Saturday morning after she woke to find a 42-year-old man rummaging through bags in her bedroom.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is reporting this afternoon that Gary L. Eilander of Lynnville has been charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree sexual abuse for allegedly breaking into a home near the intersection of Cross Street and Main Street at 4:30 a.m.

Deputies said the subject entered the residence and went upstairs where three females were sleeping. The 17-year-old victim stated in the report that she woke to find the subject, later determined to be Eilander, near her bed. She told deputies the defendant then began rubbing her back and put his hand down her pants.

The victim’s statement continued, accounting her ability to walk past Eilander to alert her parents. The home owners told authorities they confronted the subject in the kitchen where they identified him as Eilander from “prior knowledge.” The report did not indicate the subject’s exact relationship to the victims. The homeowners told deputies they believed Eilander was intoxicated during the events.

The intruder allegedly went through bags and jewelry boxes in the home, but officers did not report anything was taken from the scene.

Eilander was apprehended and taken to the Jasper County Jail Saturday where he is still being held on a $35,000 bond. According to court documents, Eilander has no prior criminal history before Saturday’s events.
