Editorial by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and Mason City police dealt with off-roaders on city streets Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The sheriff’s department reported that they first assisted the MCPD at about midnight with a group of subjects that were riding ATVs and dirt bikes on city streets. They advised the subjects, who where operating at that time in the 1400 block of North Rhode Island Avenue, that they could not operate the vehicles on the road. Law enforcement had caught up with 2 ATV riders and 1 dirt bike at Northside Liquor at about that time and could be seen outside the establishment (pictured).

Just a short time later, Mason City Mason City police began fielding more calls from the Highland Golf Course area about ATVs buzzing around on the streets. An officer went tot he area to observe at about 1:35 AM and said he would remain there for a short time.

No further information was immediately available and it did not appear that any arrests were made.

Mason City police spent quite a bit of time at Alley Katz again Saturday night and Sunday morning;

police performed a walk through just after midnight.

Their squad cars are pictured here behind the bar parked in the alley.
