Little leaguers warming up for new season

MASON CITY – The Holcim baseball complex was busy this weekend.

The Mason City Youth Baseball season is getting warmed-up. Many teams from Lil-Sluggers to Senior age groups have started practices. There was a great range of coaches working together on this first weekend. Experienced ballplayers were helping the moms and dads with drills while the parents were keeping the kids inline. Everyone was working together to help the kids learn and have fun playing baseball. Most the teams were practicing fundamentals and enjoying the beautiful weather we had Sunday evening.

Throughout the next month teams will be using baseball fields around town to prepare for the start of the 2012 season. Opening day for most youth baseball is May 21st. All games will be played at the Holcim baseball complex. Traveling baseball teams have already started using the fields for games.

Mason City Youth Baseball hosts a number of events during the year. Two of the most important important activities are the Hy-Vee Invitational Tournament and a fundraising event. Team members will be selling fundraising cards with coupons for many area businesses.
