ST. PAUL — Investigators today renewed their call for information from the public about an infant girl whose body was found in the Mississippi River near Winona on Labor Day 2011. Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) agents and Winona County Sheriff’s Office deputies have pursued numerous leads and tips since then, but have not been able to determine what happened.
An autopsy by the Dakota County Medical Examiner did not reveal how the baby died, but it did provide investigators with DNA information about both her mother and father. BCA Senior Special Agent Drew Evans says investigators hope to use that information to identify the baby’s parents.
“We want to talk with them about what happened to the baby and how she ended up in the river,” Evans said.
Anyone with information about the baby or her mother is urged to contact the Winona County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 507-457-6530. Information can be provided anonymously.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office has announced that a funeral service will be held for the baby Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winona.
