Cedar Rapids Attorney Sentenced For Drug Possession

A Cedar Rapids attorney who possessed crack cocaine in November 2011 was sentenced today to 15 days’ imprisonment.

Stanley A. Roush, 52, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the jail term after a December 13, 2011 guilty plea to possession of crack cocaine after a prior drug possession conviction. Roush had previously been convicted in federal court for possession of marijuana.

In a plea agreement, Roush admitted that he and a third-party purchased $200 worth of crack cocaine at an apartment complex in northeast Cedar Rapids. Law enforcement observed Roush purchase the crack cocaine and approached Roush when he stopped at a gas station after the purchase. Upon seeing law enforcement approach his vehicle, Roush threw the crack cocaine behind his seat and told officers that he had swallowed it. The crack cocaine was subsequently found by officers during a search of Roush’s vehicle. Roush had intended to personally use the crack cocaine.

Roush was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Roush was sentenced to 15 days’ imprisonment and fined $2,500.00. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and Roush was ordered to pay an additional $150.20 for the costs of prosecution. He must also serve a 1-year term of supervised release after the prison term.

Roush was released on the bond previously set and is to surrender to the United States Marshal on a date yet to be set.
