Dairy Queen holds customer appreciation day

By Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – Dairy Queen celebrated their Second Annual Customer Appreciation Day Tuesday, in Mason City.

Everything was half price.  Not just one item on the receipt, but the whole total of your order was split in half.

Barb, who buying a big sheet cake for her husband’s birthday said, “He loves them, and for half off, I said “Why Not!”.

People had armloads of ice cream novelties and cakes.  It was taken two employees to keep the freezer stocked and making sure everybody was getting what they wanted.

“I’ve never seen it this busy,” said Jesse Whitehurst, who was doing his best to keep up with cleaning off tables and helping customers.

Noah Kofoot was one of two register workers who was trying to keep the line flowing smoothly.  At times the lines were out to the dining area, and just wouldn’t get shorter.

Tyler Hadley, Senior Marketing Manager said, “This is for our customers because without them we wouldn’t be in business.  We appreciate them and we want them to know it.  Maybe this will bring in new customers, but most importantly, people get to know our General Manager, Zach Donaghy.”

“Earlier today we were busy, then we slowed for a short period of time, but now, this is really exciting how busy we are,” Donaghy said with excitement. “We are really having a lot of fun.”

Hadley, who lives in St. Paul said, “We’ve grown so much and so fast.  We have more than doubled the number of Dairy Queens since I started.  In Kentucky, we even sell breakfast.”

One of the reasons might be because of their service.  All the employees had smiles and greeted the customers, while at the same time, getting out their orders.  “This is why I like working here,” said Whitehurst, “Everybody is easy to get along with, even the big guys that are here today to help out.”
