Dames of Anarchy make donation to Crimestoppers

Mason City’s Roller Derby team, the River City Dames of Anarchy, took a break from their practice on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, to give back to the community. The Dames, with the help of their fans, raised a total of $2,007.63 for the local Crime Stoppers organization! The team’s Board of Directors presented the check to Sheriff Kevin Pals and his fellow officers. The money was raised during the team’s debut home bout on November 12, 2011, in which all three officers were present.

The roller derby team consists of over 20 local women from around the North Iowa area who play the sport on a voluntary basis. They are responsible for providing their own skates and gear, transportation and funds to keep the sport alive in Mason City. Holding home bouts allows them to continue to play both here at home and on the road. But more than anything, the Dames are committed to giving back to the community and look forward to their next opportunity to do so.

The Dames of Anarchy teamed up with Harley Davidson of Mason City and are currently raising money to benefit the Crisis Intervention Service by selling calendars. To purchase one for $15.00, you can find the Dames on Facebook by going to www.facebook.com/RCDOA.

The team’s next roller derby event will occur on Feb. 25, 2012 at the North Iowa Fair. Following that, their Season Opener will be held on April 7, 2012.
