Starting on Thanksgiving night, the Weitzel family started getting the people of Mason City and surrounding areas into the spirit of Christmas.
With their house ablaze with Christmas lights dancing to Christmas music, people gaze at the show in amazement.

“The first three years we did this we put the music on loud speakers, but someone decided to be a scrooge and called the Police Department. Last year was the first year that we broadcasted on radio, FM 89.3. It has become very popular. Our first night, the road was full!” said Blake Weitzel.
Blake is the son of Dan and Amy Weitzel, and brother to Zach and Brandon. “My dad does the programming, it takes eight hours of programming for each song,” explains Blake. “He really likes doing it, it’s become his hobby. Each show is approximately 45 minutes long. Dad added more this year.”
Blake was out welcoming the gazers. He went car to car, saying “Merry Christmas, would you like a candy cane?” With a big smile on his face, you could tell he was enjoying spreading some Christmas Cheer. “I suggested we do this, but Dad was busy, so I decided to do it myself.”
If you haven’t been by the Weitzel’s home, it’s a must see. It is located at 815 16th St NE. The show is Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30pm and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 10:00pm. They ask you to be courteous to others by turning off your headlights and not to block the driveways. Also make sure you leave room for cars to pass by.
