Hamilton County couple plead guilty to meth conspiracy

A man and woman who conspired to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine pled guilty August 29, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City. Kristen McCoy, 43, from Stanhope, Iowa, and Todd Reynolds, 44, from Webster City, Iowa, were convicted of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

At the plea hearing, McCoy and Reynolds admitted they conspired to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine from about 2008 through January 2011, in the Hamilton County, Iowa, area. On July 2, 2010, law enforcement officers conducted searches of a motor vehicle occupied by McCoy and Reynolds in Wright County, Iowa, and their residence in Hamilton County, Iowa. Officers seized drug paraphernalia, a small amount of methamphetamine, and approximately 34.39 grams of pseudoephedrine (precursor for methamphetamine) in the vehicle and several items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine. According to pseudoephedrine purchase logs (obtained by law enforcement), McCoy and Reynolds purchased approximately 320.16 grams of pseudoephedrine in the Webster City area primarily between 2009 and January 2011.

Sentencings before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after presentence reports are prepared. McCoy and Reynolds were taken into custody by the United States Marshal after their guilty pleas and will remain in custody pending sentencing. Each face a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, a $5,000,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and at least 4 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Webster City Police Department, the Fort Dodge Police Department, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.|
