Livestock losses due to extreme temperatures and other weather events may be eligible to receive assistance through the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP).

“We have great livestock farmers in Iowa who have done everything they can to care for their animals during this record-breaking heat wave, but reports of deaths due to the heat are starting to come in and I encourage famers with losses to contact their local FSA office,” Northey said.

Producers only have 30 days from when the loss was discovered to file a notice of loss, so it is important that they start the process in a timely manner. If the farmers qualify for the program they will be eligible to receive 75 percent of the value of the livestock lost.|
