Mason City City Council to consider loitering issue at 12th Street overpass

The Mason City City Council will meet Tuesday evening and discuss issues ranging from the Federal Avenue streetscape project, to loitering issues at the 12th Street overpass, to a speed limit change at 15th Street SW.| The Mason City City Council will be meeting Tuesday evening and discuss a speed limit change for 15th Street SW from Federal Avenue to Monroe Avenue. This issue was voted on affirmatively at the last council meeting and needs to pass a second or final vote. The speed limit would go from 25 mph to 30 mph.

The council will also discuss a technicality involving work on the Federal Avenue streetscape project. A contract extension with McKiness Excavating will be evaluated, so that McKiness can finish their work on the project by September 2, 2011. It has been noted in city memos that the major hold-up to completing at least the plaza area of the streetscape project has been due to the Park Inn renovation project, happening simultaneously. See related story on streetscape project time extension.

Council will also discuss loitering issues under the 12th Street NW overpass. According to a memo from City Administrator Brent Trout, “the police department has very little it can do to address these situations based on current ordinances.” He recommends that city staff research solutions.
