In the first match of the 2011 calendar year, redshirt freshman Hannah Willms led the Cyclones with 10 kills against Wayne State while Hannah Johnson and Alison Landwehr added seven apiece. Matlock, Taylor Knuth and Debbie Stadick each grabbed two solo blocks in the match.

It was Matlock who stood out in game two, scoring 10 kills and posting two solo blocks and one block assist. Jenson had eight kills in the match and Willms and Stadick each put up seven kills. Middle blocker Jamie Straube got in on the action with four solo blocks.

In the team’s only loss of the day, Petersen led the offensive charge with 10 kills and posted two solo blocks, as did Willms. Stadick had seven kills and an ace in the match.

Possibly the highlight of the day though was the return of Rachel Hockaday who sat out the 2010 season after suffering a knee injury in the season-opener against Florida. Hockaday was back in action for the first time since that day against Florida and had two attack attempts on the day.
