More on the arrest of wanted subject Reich

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff assisted the Mason City Police Department with a barricaded subject on Tuesday afternoon.

Cerro Gordo County officers and Mason City police officers were on the scene at 2822 North Carolina Avenue at 3:04 PM Tuesday to deal with a subject who was barricaded in a residence. “Originally I thought the subject was out on foot near the city limits, but he was discovered barricaded in the residence,” said a Cerro Gordo County officer. “I assisted MCPD by getting the ballistic shield from the PD. And then, perimeter security of the residence during entry by the officers.”

Upon the arrival of Mason City Police Officers, Michael Reich, age 22, of Mason City fled the residence on foot. He attempted to hide at another property nearby, but officers were able to locate him there. As the officers were making entry into the property he fled again on foot back to the initial call location. Officers then secured the basement of the residence while more officers were arriving on scene. After several attempts to get Reich out of the basement the officers made entry and found that Reich had barricaded himself in a small crawl space between the floor boards and the foundation. After negotiating with Reich for several minutes he gave up and exited of the crawl space without incident.

Reich was wanted on a Felony warrant from fleeing the Cerro Gordo County Court House during his sentencing to prison for a Burglary 3rd charge the previous week.|
