Volunteer opportunities are available through the City Volunteer Program

–Warming House Painting project–We are seeking an individual or a group to paint the exterior of a 12 x 24 building that is 10’ high. The project is set to start when weather permits.

–12th Street Railroad Trestle Painting project–This project will need a large group of volunteers. Certain safety guidelines will need to be followed during this project, which is scheduled to begin in May. We are looking at this being a oneday project, so we will need a large volunteer base.

–Bulletin Board project–A volunteer with carpentry experience is needed to lead us into this project, which will be a bulletin board building project or refurbishingproject.

–Graffiti Cover-Up project–Volunteers are needed to cover up graffiti under the Washington and Pennsylvania street bridges.

–Adopt-a-Parking Lot projectóTo recognize a volunteer group, signage will be placed within this parking lot for a group willing to regularly pick up litter, remove weeds and trim shrubbery. We are seeking a group willing to adopt this lot on along-term basis.

–Parks Ambassadors are needed to volunteer for the Park Watch program. A new training session will be held this coming spring. Applications are being accepted now.

–The Friends of the 457 have several volunteer opportunities available to assist with the 1912 steam locomotive “Cannonball” located in East Park.

  • Sales Depot clerks May through October
  • Cannonball Day (June 25)
  • Volunteer schedule coordinator May through October

–Earth Day Committee members are needed to help plan this year’s communitywide litter clean up and the rally following the event. Meetings are held during the noon hour typically one time per month from January through April.

–Earth Day clean up teams are needed for the upcoming community-wide litter clean up event scheduled for Saturday, April 16. Teams are provided with litter bags and are assigned specific locations. A rally following the event is held tothank our volunteers and to provide eco-friendly educational booths and activities.

–Adopt-a-Section volunteer positions are available with the cemetery. Volunteers involved in this project help keep our cemetery grounds maintained. Some of the responsibilities include pond clean up, trimming, branch/limb removal and flower planting.

–MacNider Arts Museum holds its annual arts festival and is seeking volunteers to assist with various art booths, set up and take down.

–Weed pulling and litter clean up throughout the community are ideal for individuals who want to spend time outdoors throughout the summer and fall and who want to be involved in helping to make Mason City “Sparkle.”

–Mailings/Labeling/Brochure Folding projects are available throughout the year. Volunteers are placed on a rotating schedule at various locations depending upon the department or program in need of assistance.

–Adopt-a-Street project–Several streets are available for adoption. Volunteers will be recognized for their efforts with signage within their adopted street. Responsibilities include cleaning their street at least three times per year. Cleanup crew kits are available providing you with items necessary for the effort.
