City of Mason City New Year’s Holiday Service and Christmas Tree Collection Date

City offices will be closed on Friday, December 31, 2010, in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday. There will be no sanitation service on this day. The make-up day for sanitation service for those that normally have pick-up on this day will be Wednesday, December 29.

City Transit buses will run normal scheduled routes on December 31.

Any residents that missed the sanitation collection make-up date of December 22 for the Christmas holiday may set out the items from that date on Wednesday, the 29th and are not required to place the additional sanitation sticker on the items.

Christmas trees will be collected on one date this year. The trees should be placed at the curbside prior to 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. If the tree is over 6 feet tall, please cut in half before placing on curb.

Tree stands, nails, metal fasteners, wire, tinsel, and plastic bags must be removed from the tree. Roping or wreaths that contain wire must be placed in regular garbage or taken to a disposal site at 14th Street NE and Elm Drive by January 12.

Flocked trees cannot be picked up. Residents may take them to a disposal site at 14th Street NE and Elm Drive by Wednesday, January 12.

If there are any questions, contact the Sanitation Division at 421-3691 or the Transit Division at 421-3616.
