In the first wave of nuisance violation inspections in Mason City, police find 168 violators.|The Mason City Police Department and Neighborhood Services Division have completed the first area of inspection. Officers and Inspectors checked the area north of 7th Street NW and west of North Federal and east of N. Pierce for nuisance violations. In this area, 168 addresses were found with suspected nuisance violations.
Some of the types of violations include:
Junked, non-running or unregistered vehicles and boats; large piles of garbage or brush; old building materials and old appliances.
Once made aware of the violations, nearly all citizens complied and cleaned up the nuisances. Of the 168 violations, only four municipal infractions were issued.
A municipal infraction is a civil ordinance citation which may result in a penalty of up to $585.00.
