Tuckpointing (brick repairs) work will be done all over the exterior of the building, according to Pastor Ron Stein. The repairs will cost between $70,000 and $100,000. “We thought is would be much more, perhaps as much as $200,000. So that is a blessing,” he said.
Stein told NorthIowaToday.com that the church was built in 1897 and the repairs are just part of the process of keeping the church in good shape.
Stein also says First Baptist is one of the oldest churches in Mason City and is doing well. “We are growing every Sunday. We have about 1500 more members of our congregation that at this time last year. We add between 15-25 new visitors each week.”
