Fire Department swearing in ceremony this Friday

Mason City, IAñ The Mason City Fire Department will swear in its three new members at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10 at the Fire Station. Troy Kubista, Brad Boldt and Greg Jurek have all joined the Fire Department within the past six weeks. “Years ago, we were sworn in when we did our initial paperwork, before we even got the fire station,” recalls Fire Marshal Mark Christiansen. “You just went before the Mayor who delivered the oath.” The Fire Department now has a formal ceremony to swear in its new members. “These days, we try to make the event special for everyone–the new members, their families and those who already work at the Fire Department,” according to Deputy Chief Doug Janssen. “The Department’s Honor Guard is always decked out for the ceremony,” says Chief Bob Platts. “We just don’t have the opportunities to wear dress uniforms these days, so it’s always impressive to see our Department at in its finest.” City Administrator Brent Trout, who will actually administers the oath to the new members, likes this part of his job. “It’s always a pleasure to welcome new employees to the City, but the formality of the swearing in ceremony just adds that little bit extra.” Anyone with any questions should call the Mason City Fire Department at 641.421.3640.
